Originally reviewed at Bookwraiths. Schools of Dune is the next step in the gradual evolution of the Dune universe. Where Legends of Dune chronicled the great war between humankind and the “thinking machines” while spotlighting the origins of so many of the classic elements of Frank Herbert’s science fiction classic, this trilogy goes even further, detailing the rise of the Bene Gesserite Sisterhood, the origins of the Mentats, the creation of the Spacing Guild, and the continued escalation in th...more

Dinamični autor...more

While nothing can compare to the original Dune masterpieces by Frank Herbert, I'm so happy that son Brian has taken up the mantle and continued the Dune Saga. I own and have read all 19 of the Dune books!! I love immersing myself in the Dune worlds, and hope this isn't the final book!! As long as you continue to write these books Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, I'll continue to buy and read them! I need more Vorian and Norma!

Navigators Of Dune Audiobook
Navigator's of Dune seems to be the final book in the Prequel series for Dune. Navigator's was the likely the worst of the series for the Dune Prequels. But, even being the worst, it is still a three star book. Roderick Corrino is now the Emperor. He is at conflict with two forces for supreme power and authority. The first is Josef Venport and the second is Manfred Torondo. Venport is at war with the Emperor over his assassination of the previous Emperor, Salvador, Roderick's brother. He also con...more

I love the Dune series but this out of all the School books was the worst. It seemed rushed and flat feeling. Some parts didn't make sense if you had read the entire series. I really felt let down by this as this was a book I highly anticipated. Don't get me wrong I liked it but it could have been better.
A good, but not great, book. It did clear up some of plot lines, but did not have as much about the Navigators as the title implies. There was a little too much repetition of things like why Erasmus 'helped' Anna, who hates who and why, why this person had to die, etc. Norma Cenva was great, but I would have liked to have seen more of her and learned more about the Navigators.

I got that thrill at the beginning, that feeling after reading so many books in this series back and forth in history, that now I'm reading about real history, that feeling of, 'oh, that's what happened that made such and such the result, that makes sense!' Well of course it makes sense, the authors reverse engineered everything from the books that Frank Herbert wrote or the ones that they wrote themselves. But usually it all holds together so well that it does feel real, and that's what has me...more

It's hard to say what I think about this book. It's clearly better than the previous 2 of this Trilogy. It is also way worse than the ones in the original saga (or even the ones from the Butlerian Jihad). That being said, I enjoyed it a lot and never felt bored by reading, although I knew everything that would happen before it did. I disliked the way some things where handled. Erasmus mostly. And the origin of the Sisterhood on the other hand. Brian is good with his own characters and sroty arcs, b...more

More of the same fun pulp fiction full of psychotic characters. Makes me wonder about the authors if they think everyone influential must be psychotic.
I liked this one because of the feud between the Atreides and Harkonnens focus. I can easily see future novels written by these authors following the adventures and squabbles of Valya, Tula and Danvis Harkonnen and Willem Atreides who will clearly earn favor with the Emporer and marry a princess. The rest of the novel, like 95% was boring abd predictable.

This book is a great conclusion to the series it ties up loose ends but in some regards is anticlimactic. I have enjoyed all the books in the Dune series This was something I started in high school in the late 70's by reading the original Dune by Frank Herbert. I was glad when the prequels were written, and finally, Navigators of Dune, the 19th book in the series. I gave it four stars because I enjoyed it a little less than the others, maybe I'm sorry this will most likely be the last one in the...more
I've never read a book with more repetition. Every motive was given, told, and reiterated to the point that it significantly detracted from an otherwise fine storyline. I'm usually a fan of the series and authors but for whatever reason they just spent so much more time rehashing than spinning a new tale.

First things first: this is a third book in a trilogy following Sisterhood of Dune and Mentats of Dune, so don't read it thinking it's a standalone book about the Guild Navigators. In fact, the whole trilogy is called 'Schools of Dune,' and each book discusses the Navigators, the Sisterhood, and the Mentats. The naming conventions are a bit misleading (maybe for marketing reasons?), since this is a trilogy that's focused as much on imperial/great house intrigue as it is on the formation of the s...more

Brian and Kevin, can we stop this crap already? No matter how many of these McDune books are written, they ultimately add nothing to the Duneverse that Frank Herbert lovingly created. The Great Schools of Dune books in themselves would be all right as original novels, with characters that Brian and/or Kevin created. Not great, but acceptable to some SF readers. As something that is meant to add to the Duneverse though, this book is just unnecessary garbage, and like all the other McDune books, th...more

A lot of negative energy with the KJA and BH novels. I, for one, am glad they are keeping the series alive. Along with Isaac Asimov, Frank Herbert was one of my great escapes as a youth. I appreciate these series continuations. This particular novel is a staple to the 'Schools of Dune' series they have been releasing. If you enjoy the extended series.... You'll love this book! I'm a die-hard 'Dune' fan, so my opinion may be bias. ;)

Ive been waiting so long for this book to come out in Poland:) Finally it arrived and i Loved it. Iam a sucker for the Dune universe. We got more indepth insights into some of the characters including Vorian Atreides and the whole Harkonnen-Atreides family feud. Good action an some unexpected turns of events kept me reading on. 5 stars from me and I hope we will have some more stories from this series in the futute.

There are some characters that are still alive that need to die.....
I'm pretty sure anything I would have to say about this book is similar to my Review of Sisterhood of Dune because these books all kind of blur together for me. The one bonus is that this book *Actually* covered the formation of the Spacing Guild, which you kind of knew was coming with Venport anyway, but this was much more substantial/clear. And a bunch of people died. Yay.
Argh, easily the worst of the books so far. It's dry, soul-less, and unimaginative. The 'characters' (if you can call them that) are life-less puppets to the authors whims. Being shoehorned into events in bad attempts to further wider plots. And at every turn the authors seem intent on reminding us continuously of hard to forget plot stupidities from previous books, as if anyone would read this book without wasting their time with the previous 5? Or worse still be so overcome with amnesia they'v...more

A good read for Dune fans, but not a satisfactory stand alone book. FYI, I was sent a copy of this book to review for a website. Josef Venport is the main character of this final installment of the Great Schools of Dune Trilogy, and he's trying to keep his power, as a businessman, alive while being attacked by the forces of the Emperior (whose brother he killed) and the 'Butlerian' zealots (who hate technology) lead by Manford Torondo. My biggest problem was a lack of focus on the Navigators unti...more

Despite their often maligned (and unwarranted) reputation, I’ve always found the new canon in the Dune Universe, particularly the prequel mythologies, to be high quality science fiction … and Navigators of Dune is no exception. Put simply: succinct syntax and perfectly amiable prose laying the groundwork for an existing world almost unrivaled in its ambition. A logical and entertaining convergence of events that ultimately bring the great schools into being. There’s really nothing more to be sai...more

A good end to a trilogy that embodies the themes of the original series the best so far. Seeing the Bene Gesseritt, Mentats and Navigators come into being, how the political and social structure of the empire shifts in response to dogmatism and the lingering fears of the machine wars was pretty well done and good for further questions and thoughts post-read. There are times the anti-dogmatism nail is hit over and over again so hard that it comes across like preaching, but there is no greater thr...more

Nothing ground-breaking here. You might say this dilutes the Duniverse, and it would be hard to argue against. (This is the 13th or so 'extra' Dune book.) However, this is very neat writing. The action is not so bad. There is even some nice character development. There are no 5-page paragraphs or 100-page chapters. It is very easy to pick up where you left off. Nicely wraps up the plot started in Sisterhood of Dune.

I've seen the movie and miniseries of Dune, but this is my first dive into the books. The story and characters are very engaging. Listening to the book to and from work was fun, and at times, I didn't want to get out of the car because something exciting was happening in the story. I may try some of the other books in the series now. I received this audiobook free through a Goodreads Giveaway.

Ok tied up loose ends Again with many of these books the the repetitive background story when starting a new chapter and character thought led to some bordem. I was happy to at least see the conclusion to some of my favorite characters.
This book felt very contrived to me. It was as if Herbert and Anderson simply had to write a third book and this was the somewhat inevitable conclusion. What it failed to do, in my mind, was make a good connection from all the 'old lore and history' of the original Dune series, to the beginning the Houses of Dune series, which blended well into the Original series. It simply ended, leaving me feeling like there maybe should be more to come, but not making me interested to read it. Also, I hated...more

Not to be read out of order, this is yet another in the long sci-fi series of Dune books, this one fills in some mysteries and I was surprised to find it had me in suspense nearly all the way to the end. I didn't think any of Dune followup books could hold a candle to the Legends of Dune series, but I am pleasantly wrong on this one. Masterfully crafted tapestry of deceit and bad fortune such as could only be bested by real life, bringing me to root even for villains at times, nothing was predic...more
